About M.A.P.S.
M.A.P.S was founded by three determined women aiming to make a
difference in the lives of children at all developmental levels. After receiving
vendorization by ALTA California Regional Center in July of 2007, the
program's first Integrated Play Therapy Group began in November of 2007.
Today, the program is one of only a handful of such therapy providers across
the nation, and it is the only play therapy program that integrates the principle
pedagogy of Dr. Maria Montessori, PhD. M.A.P.S serves over 50 children and
hosts 12 individual Play Therapy Groups at Sundance Montessori School in
Folsom.
Known as M.A.P.S, our specialized therapy program emphasizes the gifts and
challenges we all have; combining children with developmental delays with
their typically developing peers, in fun, social settings designed for them to
engage in interactive play. The group therapy focuses on the social and
communication skills that are critical to a child's social development, and aids
them in forming friendships and becoming active members of a community.
We are vendorized by ALTA California Regional Center, and foster a policy of
inclusion, acceptance, and compassion.
Our Integrated Play Group Therapy is based on the award-winning research
of Dr. Pamela Wolfberg, PhD combined with Dr. Maria Montessori's education
method that emphasizes social interaction and the education of the whole
personality rather than the teaching of a specific body of knowledge.
